The Providence St. Vincent Emergency Department Expansion/Remodel encompassed a comprehensive, multi-phased renovation of the existing emergency department located on the lower level of the Phil & Penny Knight Pavilion (formerly, the West Pavilion.) The scope of the work included remodeling and hardening the entry/security/arrival zones; new fast track and results pending spaces; new and updated nurse stations and employee work areas; increased exam room counts and treatment spaces for the current pods; and a new diagnostic imaging department with three general radiology machines, two CT scanners and an ultrasound room. Also included in the project was a relocated secure Behavioral Health department and adjacent flex room spaces that allow for use as either medical or behavioral health rooms, depending upon the patient census. There is a new and expanded staff break room area with a view to the existing interior courtyard, new locker rooms, and updates to the pediatrics area. The project included all related interior finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, low voltage, security and fire protection/fire alarm systems work as required, and vital infrastructure improvements to support the department. The approximate square footage totaled 57,250 SF.
The Emergency the department continued to be operational and fully functional 24/7 during the the extensive remodel and expansion build. There were multiple phases and sub-phases required in order to maintain operations and available exam room counts to an acceptable minimum number during each phase.
